Cream Tea, Pétanque and Plenty of Sunshine
On Saturday 8th August, Tregony Pétanque Club members gathered for a very enjoyable afternoon of pétanque, friendship and, of course, a traditional Cornish cream tea.
The weather certainly played its part. It was a beautiful summer’s day, although perhaps a little hotter than some of us might have wished for when stepping into the circle! The afternoon had been organised by Rosemary Whittaker and attracted a good turnout of members, together with a number of family members who came along to watch, socialise and see what we get up to at the club.
We began with two timed games, giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy some friendly competition before attention turned to the other important event of the afternoon – the homemade cream tea. This was generously provided by Phil and, naturally, served the proper Cornish way – jam first! After the heat of the afternoon, there were certainly no complaints about taking a break from the pétanque to enjoy scones, cream and jam in good company.
More than anything, it was lovely to see so many members gathered together, chatting, playing and simply enjoying each other’s company. Having family members join us added to the relaxed atmosphere and made the afternoon feel like a real club occasion rather than simply another day of competition.
The afternoon summed up rather well what Tregony Pétanque Club is all about: we enjoy our pétanque and take our play seriously, but friendship, laughter and having fun together are every bit as important.
Many thanks to Rosemary for organising the afternoon, to Phil for providing the excellent cream tea, and to everyone who came along and helped make it such an enjoyable occasion.
