Paul Wieczorek Match (TPC v TS&SC) 4th May 2025.

In aid of Mount Edgecombe Hospice.

This is the first, as the intent is for it to be an annual match, with the winner’s team Trophy provided by the Sports Club, in memory of Paul who provided and supported much of the beautiful garden that surrounds the Petanque terrain.

This social game, but with a spirit of competition, evolved from 5 teams (of 3) from the Petanque Club and 7 teams (some being 4 no) from the social club. This all made the scoring somewhat complex ...but that’s another story.

The weather did hold out despite some very black clouds slowly passing over and we all had a fun afternoon (games started around 2.45pm onto 5ish). This was followed by a delicious Chicken Curry (plus beverages) on the terrace of the Club at the end of the games. A raffle was held, with many varied items donated by all concerned!

Regarding the score – TPC teams won more matches than the social club. The winning team (by 1 point) was from TPC – Anthea, Dave (the machine) Saunders and Linda Johnnson. Sean presented the trophy, to Anthea who spoke about Paul and thanked everyone.

The runners up team – was from the Social club, Andy Rose, Richard James and Steve Bowyer.

Thank you to all who helped and took part especially those who had not played before. It was a special occasion, and to raise monies for Mount Edgecome Hospice. Final figure to be advised.
